A more likely source of information about deaths is to be found in the Kirk Session records held in the National Archives. Mention may be made to the hire of a mortcloth used in the burial, or other accounting charges for services rendered, or perhaps donations to church funds by the deceased.
These records, which are not indexed, often make reference to paternity disputes, or give an indication of illegitimate births, when the guilty parties are brought before the Kirk session to atone for their pre-nuptial fornication!
